How to read Modbus RS485 data?
Please ensure that you have prepared the hardware and software before connecting the Modbus.
Hardware:
A transmitter that communicates with the Modbus RTU protocol.
A USB to RS485 converter.
Connecting cables for signal (CR+, CR-) and external power.
Software:
ModScan, Modbus Poll, or other Modbus readers.
This software can read data via the RS485 serial port on your PC.
- Connect a transmitter to your PC using a USB to RS485 converter.
- Ensure that the USB to RS485 converter is properly connected.
- Right-click on "Start" and select "Device Manager".
- Find “Ports (COM & LPT)” and check which port is connected.
- Open ModScan and click on “Connection”, select “Connect”.
- Choose the correct COM port and set the configuration to: 9600, 8, None, 1
- Enter the “Device ID”, select “03: Holding Register” and input the “Length”.
Your PC will start receiving data via the RS485 port once you complete all these steps.
